ROLE

Colleen Cawley facilitates learning in the Joyce Johnson Center of Simulation. She is also facilitating learning in online virtual simulation courses.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Colleen Cawley started working in higher education as adjunct faculty in 2010. She has continued to gain experience teaching classes in person, online, and in labs and simulation. She has taught at Nightingale College, Weber State University, and Tacoma Community College.

CLINICAL EXPERIENCE

Colleen has practiced nursing since 1993 and has worked in a variety of specialties. She has worked with patients across all stages of life: from labor and delivery to the ICU, where she provided support to new moms and babies in L&D; to life saving care as well as end of life care, if necessary, in the ICU.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH

Colleen belongs to the American Association of Critical Nurses, the American Association of Colleges of Nursing, AWHONN, Nurse Tim, the Utah Simulation Coalition,  and the Society for Simulation in  Healthcare. In the Spring 2021, she administered COVID-19 vaccines as a Utah 1st Responders volunteer. Colleen is active in her community in a variety of volunteer service projects.

TEACHING PHILOSOPHY

Colleen loves seeing her students actively learn during simulated patient care experiences. She creates a safe space to learn in. Her favorite part of the job is helping prepare future nurses for practice.

EDUCATION

Colleen Cawley holds an ADN from Northern Virginia Community College, a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from Old Dominion University, and a Master of Science in Nursing with an education focus from Western Governors University.

PERSONAL INTEREST

Outside of work, Colleen enjoys spending time with family, playing with her dogs, swimming, fishing and gardening.
