Dr. Dennison’s role is to ensure that Joyce students have the best possible nurse educators so that they can become nurses who provide quality client care.
Dr. Dennison has extensive experience in faculty and leadership roles for public, private, and proprietary higher learning institutions. Some of these include South College, University of Saint Augustine for Health Sciences, Baptist Health Lexington, Chamberlain College of Nursing, Georgetown University, and University of Cincinnati College of Nursing.
Dr. Dennison’s practical specialties are critical care and emergency nursing. She has been a nurse since 1975.
Recent professional associations and activities include roles as an onsite evaluator for the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, vice president of the Alpha Alpha Alpha chapter of Sigma Theta Tau, and reviewer for American Journal of Nursing, Journal of Nursing Education, and Critical Care Nurse.
Dr. Dennison enjoys assisting students and faculty in problem-solving. This frequently involves exploring priorities. She also enjoys developing educational programs to enable nurse educators to enhance their teaching abilities. She also enjoys mentoring educators in that developmental process.
Dr. Dennison holds an Associate of Arts in Nursing from Morris Harvey College (now University of Charleston), a BSN from Marshall University, an MSN with a cardiopulmonary clinical specialty from the University of Delaware, a DNP from the University of Kentucky, and a graduate certificate in college teaching and learning from the University of Kentucky.
Dr. Dennison is currently certified as a Certified Nurse Educator (CNE) by the National League of Nursing and as a nurse executive (NEA-BC) and nursing professional development specialist (NPD-BC) by American Nurses Credentialing Corporation.
Dr. Dennison is the author of the book Pass CCRN® (Adult), 6th Edition, which prepares critical care nurses for the CCRN exam. She is also the author of Pass CEN!, which prepares emergency nurses for the certified emergency nurse (CEN) examination and Pass PCCN!, which prepares progressive care nurses for the progressive care nurse (PCCN) examination. Those books are all published by Elsevier. In addition, she is the author of Evaluation Beyond Exams in Nursing Education. Designing Assignments and Evaluating with Rubric published by Springer.
Dr. Dennison lives in St. Augustine, Florida, where she loves walking on the beach with her black Labrador. She also enjoys quilting and reading.
