Joyce University Celebrates Excellence at Annual Standard Bearer Award Ceremony

SALT LAKE CITY — November 19, 2024 — Joyce University of Nursing and Health Sciences honored four outstanding community members during its annual Standard Bearer Award Ceremony held on November 19, 2024. The event celebrated students, alumni, faculty, and staff who exemplify the university’s core values of Service, Learning, Integrity, Caring and Excellence.

The ceremony took place at the Draper Campus and also featured a virtual stream, allowing participants from across the country to join in the celebration.

“Each year we have the pleasure of honoring those who embody the spirit of Joyce University,” said Dr. John Smith-Coppes, President and CEO of Joyce University. “The individuals honored this year are the standard bearers of our mission, and their dedication to excellence in nursing and health sciences inspires us all.”

This year’s honorees included:

Student Winner, Ashland Griffin: A second-year student at Joyce, Ashland has demonstrated resilience, balancing the demanding responsibilities of parenthood with the rigorous demands of nursing school, all while maintaining a strong academic record and commitment to her education.

Alumni Winner, Amanda Goff: Currently the Director of Nursing at Canyon Crest Surgical where she oversees a group of 27 nurses, Amanda received both an associate and bachelor’s degree from Joyce University while working three jobs at the same time. She utilizes her role at Canyon Crest as a valuable resource and professional pipeline for graduating students at Joyce.

Faculty Winner, Chris Packard: A physical therapist who had practiced for 17 years before coming to Joyce University, Chris teaches two classes; Kinesiology and Human Anatomy and Physiology. He has shined in his career’s second act, taking tremendous pride in fostering the growth and success of Joyce’s students. Many have credited Chris as the biggest reason they have passed their licensing exams.

Staff Winner, CJ Stanley: CJ has worked with Joyce University since May 2022 and consistently goes above and beyond as a true team player. Their passion is manifested in their efforts to support both students and staff and expand Joyce’s reach into new states where nurses are needed.

The recipients were selected from a competitive pool of nominations submitted by peers, reflecting the diverse talent and commitment within the Joyce University community. Each honoree was recognized for their unique impact in carrying forward the university’s mission through their dedication to education, service, and innovation.
