Andrea Kanen is a nursing educator in Joyce University’s ASN, BSN, and direct entry MSN programs.
Andrea Kanen has been a nurse educator since 2005. She has taught both clinical and didactic instruction and has taught in person and online. She also has extensive experience preparing students for NCLEX success.
Andrea Kanen began her healthcare career as a naturopathic practitioner. After receiving her nursing license, Andrea worked in cardiology, intensive care, and as an agency nurse. She has worked in most areas of adult health.
Andrea Kanen belongs to Sigma Theta Tau international and the American Holistic Nurses Association. She has presented on creating a supportive cultural learning environment.
Andrea Kanen understands that each student needs different kinds of support in order to achieve success. She also knows that success looks different for every student, and that it isn’t necessarily academic. Her favorite part of the job is seeing the joy and amazement on students’ faces when the fog lifts and they understand a complex concept. She mentors students in professional problem solving, time and stress management, and developing the right attitude for success. She loves helping students grow into their role as professional nurses.
Andrea Kanen has a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Shepherd University and a Master of Science in Nursing Education from Chamberlain University.
Andrea Kanen loves to garden, hike, bike, horse-back ride and kayak. If the weather doesn’t cooperate she likes to snuggle up with a good book or sudoku
