Dr. Anitra K. Thomas is a full professor in Joyce University’s online BSN, RN-BSN, and ADN programs.
Dr. Thomas has extensive didactic, clinical, simulation, and lab teaching experience that dates back to 2005. She has taught subjects including core nursing competencies with lab, clinical, simulation, perspectives of healthcare delivery systems, and medical-surgical I and II.
Dr. Anitra K. Thomas became a nurse in 1997 and has experience in medical-surgical with telemetry and ER. After completing a post-master’s certificate in nursing administration in 2013, Dr. Thomas began roles in nursing leadership.
Dr. Anitra K. Thomas belongs to the American Nurses Association, the National League for Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau, and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. She is the former president of Houston Baptist University’s National Student Nurses Association and the vice president of Houston Baptist University’s branch of Sigma Theta Tau.
Dr. Anitra K. Thomas enjoys helping her students become well-rounded professionals and fostering competency-based learning based on critical thinking, clinical reasoning, and clinical judgment. She aims to ignite passion and enthusiasm for inquiry throughout the teaching and learning experiences. In her teaching, she prioritizes evidence-based practice and patient-centered care. She also experiences great joy when she envisions her students’ growth and compares it to a caterpillar flourishing and becoming a beautiful, strong butterfly.
Dr. Anitra K. Thomas has a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Prairie View A & M University, a Master of Science in Nursing from University of Phoenix, a post-master’s certificate in nursing administration from Prairie View A & M University, a post-master’s certificate in nursing education from Texas Christian University, and a Doctor of Nursing Practice in Nursing Administration from Texas Christian University.
Dr. Thomas enjoys traveling, especially to beach-front destinations. She also enjoys family time and reading.
